Volunteer Guidelines #

Pre-Event or Pre-Shift #

  • Familiarize self with Event Action Plan
  • Have knowledge of severe weather safety areas at Discovery Park 1st floor
  • Identify:
    • Fire Extinguisher locations
    • Automated External Defibrillators ( used to treat sudden cardiac arrest)
    • Manual Fire Alarm Pull Stations at exits
    • First Aid Kits

During Event #

  • Report to your section and let the previous volunteers/organizers know you are there for the shift.
  • Ensure all guests associated with Hackathon have correct credentials ( badge, shirt, etc. )
  • No guests involved with Hackathon are permitted outside of the event area for the Hackathon
  • Perform hourly walk-throughs of Discovery Park 1st and 2nd floor to ensure Hackathon guests, Sponsors, and volunteers are not outside of the permitted event area
  • Inspect Hackathon areas for unsafe conditions:
    • Unsafe usage of power strips
    • Trip Hazards
    • Exits blocked
    • Spills / Slippery Surfaces
  • Keep aisles, walkways, exit paths and entrances clear
  • Be aware of persons with special needs in your area
  • Monitor guests and report undesired behavior to the Event Lead / Lead Organizer
  • Remain Weather Aware: Ensure knowledge of Severe weather shelter areas in Discovery Park
  • No attendees or persons are allowed to smoke on UNT Campus
